Yes. The CRO reserves a company name for 28 days under sections 28 and 29 of the Companies Act 2014. The reservation is made online on CORE.
28 days. You can extend it once for another 28 days, up to 56 days in total. After that a new reservation is needed.
No. Only company names can be reserved. A business (trading) name is registered separately with the CRO, see our business name registration service.
It stops anyone else registering the same name during the reservation period. The CRO can still refuse a name that does not meet its rules, so we check the name before we file.
