What Is EORI Number

EORI stands for “Economic Operators Registration and Identification number” for businesses that undertake the import or export of goods into or out the EU borders. EORI numbers are unique for each individual and are valid throughout the European Union. Economic Operators Registration and Identification number consists of two parts:

the country code of the issuing Member State; followed by
a code or number that is unique in the Member State

Who Needs to Obtain EORI Number

Any business or individual established on the customs territory needs to apply for EORI number registration from their national customs authority before commencing any customs activity in the EU.

Economic operators not established in the customs territory of EU also need an EORI number in several cases:

to lodge a customs declaration in the customs territory of the Union;
to lodge an Entry Summary Declaration;
to submit an Exit Summary Declaration;
to submit a temporary storage declaration in the customs territory of the European Union
for carriers for the purposes of transport by sea, inland waterway or air;
for carriers who are connected to the customs system and wish to receive any of the notifications provided for in the customs legislation regarding the lodging or amendment of entry summary declarations.

Persons other than economic operators need to obtain Economic Operators Registration and Identification number if:

such registration is required by the national legislation of a Member State
a person is engaged in operations that require an EORI number according to the legislation of EU customs.

Keep in mind that EORI Number attainment requires preliminary corporate tax registration.
