Chern & Co registers your company for tax with Revenue on the paper TR2 form or TR2(FT) form, for Irish companies with no Irish-resident director and for foreign companies starting to trade in Ireland. Companies with no Irish-resident director cannot use Revenue’s online eRegistration, so the registration goes on paper: we prepare the form, collect the supporting details, send it to Revenue and follow it up until your tax numbers are issued.
Who needs a paper tax registration
- Irish companies with no Irish-resident director: Form TR2
- Non-resident (foreign) companies registering for tax in Ireland, for example to trade, employ or register for VAT here: Form TR2(FT)
- Non-resident individuals, partnerships and trusts: Form TR1(FT)
Revenue’s eRegistration on ROS is not available to these applicants, so the paper form is the only route.
What our TR2 registration service covers
- Checking which form applies to you: TR2, TR2(FT) or TR1(FT)
- Choosing the taxes to register for: Corporation Tax, VAT, Employer PAYE and PRSI, Relevant Contracts Tax (RCT)
- Preparing the completed form for signature by the company secretary or another authorised officer
- Preparing the supporting details Revenue asks for, such as the business activity, the Irish business address and, for VAT, evidence of trading
- Sending the form to Revenue Business Registrations and following up
- Answering Revenue’s questions on the application
- Setting up ROS access and acting as your tax agent once the registration is in place, if you need it
You see the completed form before it is signed and sent.
What you provide
- Company details: name, registered number, country and date of incorporation, and the foreign VAT number for a non-resident company
- Details of the directors, the company secretary and shareholders holding 15% or more
- A business address in Ireland and the address where the books and records are kept; Revenue does not accept an accountant’s or tax adviser’s address as the business address
- A description of the business activity and the date trading starts in Ireland
- Bank details for refunds
- Proof of ID and address of the directors, as required by Anti-Money Laundering (AML) rules
How it works
- You contact us, we agree the scope and send an invoice and a service contract.
- We confirm which form applies and send you a checklist of the details we need.
- We complete the form and send it to you for review and signature.
- We send the signed form to Revenue and follow up on any queries.
- Revenue issues your tax registration numbers and we set up ROS access if needed.
Incomplete forms are the main cause of delay, so we check every field before the form goes to Revenue.
Who this service is for
Irish companies whose directors all live outside Ireland, foreign companies opening a branch or starting to trade in Ireland, and non-residents who need an Irish tax registration without access to eRegistration.
Frequently asked questions
What is Form TR2?
Form TR2 is Revenue’s paper tax registration form for resident companies. Companies that cannot use eRegistration, such as companies with no Irish-resident director, register for Corporation Tax, VAT, PAYE and RCT on this form.
What is the difference between TR2 and TR2(FT)?
TR2 is for companies resident in Ireland. TR2(FT) is for non-resident companies registering for tax in Ireland. Non-resident individuals, partnerships and trusts use TR1(FT).
Why can my company not register online?
Revenue’s eRegistration is not available to companies that have no Irish-resident directors. These companies register on the paper form instead.
Who signs the form?
The company secretary or another authorised officer of the company signs the declaration. We prepare the form so you only review and sign it.
Can I register for VAT on the same form?
Yes. The form covers Corporation Tax, VAT, Employer PAYE and PRSI and RCT. For VAT, Revenue expects evidence that the company trades or will trade in Ireland.
Please note: we are required to collect and verify proof of ID and address under Anti-Money Laundering (AML) rules. We keep all client data secure and confidential.
